Usage Licenses

EXP0 offers four usage licenses designed to cover all needs, from simple personal use to the most comprehensive professional uses. Each license precisely defines what the buyer can do with the work, while the artist retains their copyright in accordance with applicable law. This system provides a transparent, balanced framework adapted to collectors, businesses, media, and creative agencies alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the artist sell the same work multiple times?

  • ©, CC, EXP0-S → Yes, these licenses are non-exclusive
  • EXP0-X → No, the artist commits to no longer selling the work

Are there restrictions on modifying a work?

Yes. When certain licenses (e.g., EXP0-S or EXP0-X) authorize modification or adaptation of the work, these uses remain governed:
they are permitted as long as they do not infringe upon the integrity of the work or the artist’s reputation, in accordance with international principles of author protection.

In other words: You can modify the image if the license permits it, but never in a distorting, defamatory, or misleading manner.

Are copyrights transferred?

No. Regardless of the type of license chosen (©, CC, EXP0-S, or EXP0-X), the author’s moral rights are never transferred.

EXP0 is a platform operating under French jurisdiction. As such, all transactions carried out on EXP0 — including by artists or buyers residing outside France — are governed by the French Intellectual Property Code, one of the most protective regimes in the world for creators.

In France, moral rights are legally inalienable, imprescriptible, and perpetual. This means that an artist, whether based in Europe, the United States, Canada, Israel, or any other country, always retains:
- the right to respect for their name (authorship of the work);
- the right to respect for the integrity of the work, even after transfer of economic rights.

Even in the case of a sale under the EXP0-X license — exclusive transfer for 99 years — moral rights remain intact and cannot be sold or waived.

Conversely, in several common law countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom), moral rights may be contractually waived or subject to extensive limitations. On EXP0, this waiver does not occur: the foreign artist automatically benefits from French protection as soon as they sell on EXP0.

This legal framework ensures that, regardless of the licenses offered, the integrity and authorship of the work remain protected and cannot be challenged by the use or resale of the NFT.
